New Delhi: While returning home from Delhi University’s Daulat Ram College on May 9th, Prof. G.N. Saibaba was arrested by Maharashtra Police for his alleged links with the Maoist. Effigy-burning of Maharashtra police and draconian law of UAPA along with protest against Operation Green hunt was registered on Sunday night in Jawaharlal Nehru University by several student organizations including JNUSU.

Speaking to the audience JNUSU Vice President Sandeep Saurav said that in the name of national security we have been witnessing illegal arresting of activists by the government time and again. “We condemn the move of MH Police and appeal for the release of Prof Saibaba immediately” Sandeep said.

Representative of AISA, AISF, UDSF, DSF and several other organizations addressed the gathering. The call for effigy burning and protest was given by the Democratic Students’ Union (DSU).

It is noteworthy that a press conference in solidarity with Prof Saibaba was held at his house on the same evening and addressed by Delhi University Teacher Association (DUTA) President Nandita Narain and Writer and Activist Arundhati Roy.

A protest by DU and JNU teachers and students along with other organizations was also held in front of Maharashtra Sadan on Saturday.
