Stor vräkning i Västbengalen

In Gulma tea-estate which is adjacent to Siliguri, the authority of Mohorgunj-Gulma tea garden has forcefully evicted 115 families from 108 acre land which is the only basis of livelihood for the adivasi and nepali people living there for more than 80 years.

The tea garden management has evicted those people with the help of existing CITU-union and local police though the management doesn’t have any legal document identifying its ownership on the land and has committed a total violation of the forest land act, 2005 taking advantages of the ignorance of the evicted people who don’t have adequate information about the law and also because of their economic condition. People has been severely beaten up and thrown away from their land which they used to harvest in the rainy season, leaving them in total insecurity. Most of the land has been taken in the name of expanding the tea garden but as the local people are claiming, most of the land are going to be sold to promoters for real estate business as it has happened there in earlier years.
Those evicted people are struggling and they want urgent solidarity and support from all the democratic people.
Lets join them, not only to stop them from being uprooted but also against the ongoing model of development, for securing everyone’s democratic rights & to stop Gulma from being the second Chandmoni tea-estate which was evicted in a similar manner throwing out 500 people in complete darkness of oblivion.
